FOR THOSE USING SCREENREADERS ONLY:

Ignore the previous message about browser versions as that does not apply to you. The important content here is the text and you should be able to access that without difficulty. The links are also attached to items of text, so should be easy to follow.

Your screenreader should find all the text content of this page first. It will find the site navigation menus next. You can use this link to go straight to them from here: Site Navigation Menus. Unless an image appears within the text it can safely be ignored. Your screenreader should also find comments that help you use this page. The link that returns users to the top of the page will not function correctly with screenreaders.

This page is designed to look like a card index and appears to be made of parchment and oriental paper. It has tags across the top and cut out shapes down the left hand side. The links appear to be written on these. The Innovations Team logo is at the top left and shows through a cut out section of the page.

Update March 2002

There's no way 13 hours of video can fit on one DVD-Rom. Certainly no way it can fit on a CD-Rom. Not so the quality is worth watching, anyway. Or is there?

The Innovations Fund is all about doing what's not been done before and the Maths for Engineers Webdisk is doing its best to prove the point. Addressing the vital need for students to understand the maths underpinning the study and practice of engineering, the Webdisk brings together video and computer-based learning resources and presents them on disk, with web-based tutorial support. It is easy to navigate, allowing users to follow any path they choose through the material available in order to maximise their personal experience.

Aimed primarily at first year engineering and science undergraduates, the project can also be versioned for industry and extended to other levels of maths for schools and colleges. Currently at prototype stage, the disk is being tested and piloted by lecturers and students. In addition, a Review Day is being held at the Maths Support Centre, Loughborough University on Wednesday, April 10th 2002. Hosted by the Learning and Teaching Subject Network for Engineering, the day will allow participants to see the disk in action and try it out for themselves. It will provide vital feedback to enable developers create as perfect a finished product as possible by June 2002.

To see a streamed introduction to the Webdisk, please go to www.ltsneng.ac.uk/nef/features/webdisk.asp. For any more information or for details of the Review Day please contact:
