Hi from the Project Team

Here is an update on our progress so far.

• We are currently recruiting voluntary mentors. We have written to 214 local and national employers and voluntary or disability linked organisations. We have established a comprehensive database of information including contact names, addresses, telephone numbers, faxes, emails and websites.
• We have placed an advert in "Horizons", the University alumni magazine distributed to over 3,000 graduates.
• Local press and radio have run stories about the project to attract participants.
• We have written to and emailed 218 first year students to recruit student mentees. This has been followed up by direct emails to students. Should the response be low, we will target second year students.
• We are currently designing a poster and flyers for recruitment purposes.
• We have secured the input from the Local Learning and Skills Council, the Student Union and Graduate Link with a view to securing involvement from SKILL, who have agreed to distribute our news in their Newsletter.
• We have held two Steering Group meetings.
• Project staff have attended Innovations workshops in Project Management, Evaluation and Dissemination.
• We have obtained the involvement of the Disability Officer in the Student Union, who attends Steering Group meetings. They will be publicising the project in their information for students with disabilities.
• We have an application form for both mentors and mentees and provided participants with the project aims, declaration and role. We hope to produce a Mentoring Information pack to guide participants through the process.
